Hundreds of respected health and scientific organizations around the world support community water fluoridation. Why? Because they have reviewed all of the available science on water fluoridation, and they know that it is safe and effective.

After decades of experience with water fluoridation and continual evidence-based research into the practice, there is no credible medical evidence that fluoridated water causes harm—including cancer, reduced IQ, thyroid issues, or kidney problems. In fact, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stated that water fluoridation is one of the 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century.

In addition, community water fluoridation is subject to industry, state, and federal standards. Fluoridation additives must meet the same scientific testing specifications as all other water treatment additives. The Water Quality Control Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment reviews all community fluoridation systems to ensure they are designed correctly. Additionally, Colorado’s water treatment facilities are regulated and operated under strict federal drinking-water standards.
